Barn Dance Home

Pass the Buck is a funky barn dance band.  Playing venues across Dorset and Hampshire including Bournemouth, Poole and Southampton,  we occasionally go further afield.

If you are looking for great barn dance or ceilidh entertainment to make your event extra special then look no further than Pass The Buck. We have a varied and lively set that will quickly have everyone on to their dancing feet.

Our regular barn dance caller, Jennet, has a full range of dances to suit everyone from the complete beginner to the seasoned barn dancer. Many of these will be familiar to regular barn dancers, although no previous experience is needed, Jennet will walk you through each one.

Folk Rock Music For Your Barn Dance

The members of the band have been performing together for many years. This experience will make all the difference on your big night.. What do we mean by “funky”?  We do play some traditional folk dance tunes, however we also write our own material with catchy melodies and interesting harmony/rhythmic content designed to inspire the dancers.

The strong rhythm section, drum kit and electric bass underlines our rock folk style. Easy on the ears for the modern audience. Listen to our demo tracks on the sound bites page..

Have a browse through these pages to find out more, and we look forward to hearing about your plans. When you get in touch we can advise on set up, start up and finish times. Any special requirements you may have can also be discussed, such as breaks for food, background music etc.

Review “You said you weren’t ‘diddly-diddly’.  How right you were. The first couple of turns certainly seemed traditional enough as you guided us through our paces. Then this bass line just ripped out of nowhere!”.

Your Event

Holding a barn dance for a special occasion has greatly increased in popularity in recent years.

It is an excellent way to get people to mingle.  Many couples are choosing to celebrate their wedding with a barn dance.

It is also an ideal way to bring people together for a birthday party or anniversary, fund raising or any social event.

No previous experience is necessary. Our caller, Jennet, will walk you through each dance before the music starts and call the moves throughout.

Complicated?  Not at all – and you’ll have great fun getting to grips with the steps.

If you are thinking of organising a barn dance we will be pleased to give you friendly advice to help your evening run smoothly.

The Dance

The Dance

Our regular caller Jennet Lambert has over 20 years experience coaching dance groups and calling for barn dances.

Jennet brings all her creativity to your event to ensure that even those trying folk dance for the first time find lots of enjoyment from the experience.

With a few minutes of explanation the band starts and off you go – it really is as easy as that.

As well as calling a number of traditional barn dances, Jennet has composed quite a few of her own, some of which have been called by other barn dance callers – no finer accolade.

If there is a particular dance that you would like for your occasion, just ask us – we may even write one just for you.

Pass the Buck has played across the South of England including Festivals at Swanage, Wimborne, Winchester and Christchurch. We are always delighted to be invited to play.

The Music

Pass the Buck has developed a strong mix of traditional folk tunes with driving bass and drum rhythms.

Our music is always interesting, for listening to, as well as for dancing.  We have even been known to burst into song on occasion, sometimes at the request of the audience!

In addition to playing the more traditional barn dance-type melodies, members of the band have written a number of  cracking tunes, some of which you can hear on our CD recording ‘Buck Naked’ (Samples on the Sound Bites page).
